General:
George Cobban was convicted of forgery in Aberdeen Court of Judiciary, 28 September 1838, he was uttering forged bank bills and sentenced to 14 years transportation to Australia. He was transported on board the vessel the John Barry leaving on 12 November 1838 and reaching Sydney on 22 March 1839. Described as being 'five feet seven and a half inches tall, with ruddy complexion, dark brown hair and grey eyes. He was able to read and write.

His wife Ann (nee Kelman) followed George out to Australia with their four children - Mary, Alexander, William and Anne. He received his pardon on 13 August 1839 and his ticket of leave on 18 March 1845.

George died at Parramatta in 1864 at his residence at Toongabbee and Ann on 2 July 1875 aged 75 also at Toongabbee.
