The Will of Lady Mercy Parker:

To Henry Parker my second son those lands messuages &e. which I bought of Richard Daye, situate in Capell or elsewhere in said county. To my son Nathaniel Parker that hundred pounds which is in the hands of my cousin Henry Austin, and forty pounds more to buy him a chamber. I give to my son Thomas Parker and his heirs all those lands, which I bought of James Hopkins late minister of Great Wenliam, situate and lying in Capel &c. I give to my dughter Saltinstall and my daughter Gordon my pair of gold bracelets, vie to each of them one bracelet. I give to my said two daughters childbed linen to be equally divided between them. Also I give six silver plate trenchers to my daughter Saltenstall. And my meaning is they shall afterwards go to such children as she shall appoint or think fit. A similar bequest to daughter Gordon. To my son. Sir Philip, a dozen silver plate trenchers. The rest of my plate &e, to my three younger sons. To my daughter Parker my coach and my red and green quilt. All or other household stuff to my son Sir Philip. To John Saltenscall my grandchild fifty pounds to be employed to his use, and that, with the profits arising, to be paid him at the age of one and twenty years. To my brothers Sir William, Sir Stephen and Mr. Thomas Soares, Sir John Wentworthe, Mr. John Gurdon my son in law, my sister Wentworth and my sister Barnardiston, to each of them a ring of the value of ten pounds. I give to Sir Richard Saltinstall a ring of the value of forty pounds. To the poor of Great Weuham forty shillings:. To the poor of Thursington forty shillings, To the poor of Weekes in Essex forty shillings. Certain servants and others. All the rest of my lands &c. to be equally divided amongst my three younger sons, Henry, Nathaniel and Thomas, whom I constitute &c. executors. General:
Robert Soame atriculated as a pensioner of St.John's College Cambridge in 1559, and became a fellow of Queens' College in 1562, and acted as college bursar from 1567-9, and was appointed a university preacher, being notably radical in religion. He became chaplain to Robert Dudley, earl of Leicester, a patron of many puritans. Robert became a college head and died, unmarried.

General:
On 3rd December 1588, Sir Stephen Soame purchased the Manor of Brickendon (Brickendonbury) in Hertfordshire from Edmund Allen of Hatfield in Middlesex, plus other estates for £1,000.

Sir Stephen Soame (1544-1619), who built the first Little Thurlow Hall, was Lord Mayor of London in 1598-1599. It was he who erected the almshouses for 'eight single persons of honest life and conversation', and the old schoolhouse for the teaching of Latin to boys, both of which are now private homes. He was also a successful merchant in London. He was created a knight batchelor on 25 April 1599 at Greenwich, London.

Sir Stephen and Lady Ann Soame had 11 children and 22 Grandchildren.

The following monumental inscription is in the church of Little Thurlow, in Suffolk, gives the best account of Sir Stephen Soame and of his family :—

Consecrated to the Memory of the Right Worshipful Sr. Stephen Soame K'. Lord Mayor of the Citie of London, in the year of our Lord 1598, and Mayor of the Staple there, almost 20 yeares, who was the Second Son of Thomas Soame, of Botely, alias Betely, in the County of Norfolcke, Gentleman, and Anne, his Wife Daughter and heir of Francis Knighton, of Little Bradley in the County of Suffolcke, Esquyer, and the Widowe of Richard Lehunt, of the said Towne, and County, Gentleman. The said Sir Stephen in his Life-time re-edified and newly Glazed the Great North Window of the Cathedral Church of St.Paul in London. Newly settled and adorned at his own charge, the Roof of Grocers' Hall, in that city, gave to the same Company 10£ to be bestowed weekely in bread upon the poor Prisoners of the Counter in the Poultry of London, for ever. In this Towne of Little Thurlow, erected and buylt a Free School, with 20£ maintenance for a Master, and 10£ for the Usher there, yearly for ever, where he erected and endowed an Almshouse besides for 9 poor people, with maintenance for ever, the maintenance of both places to be paid by annuity, forth of the Mannour of Carleton in Cambridgeshire. He departed this life May 23 being Trinity Sunday, 1619, at the age of threescore and fifteene yeares, at his Mansion house, by him formerly buylt in this Parish of Little Thurlowe.

Sir Stephen Soame was a Sheriff of Essex from 1621-1622 and was an Alderman on London in 1626. He was created a knight batchelor on 21 Deecmber 1618 at Newmarket, Suffolk.

The parish of Heydon was transfered to Cambridgeshire in 1894.

General:
Sir Thomas Soame was an Alderman for Farrington without ward from 28 July 1635 to 29 January 1639 and was Sheriff of London from 1635 to 1636. He was an MP for London from 1640-148. He was created a knight batchelor on 3 December 1641 at Hampton Court Palace, Surrey.

He was imprisoned in the Tower of London in May 1640 for refusing to list the inhabitants of his ward who were able to contribute £50 or more to a loan for King Charles.

He became alderman for Vintry ward on 29 September 1644 and later moved to Cheap ward where he was discharged by order of House of Commons on 1 June 1649. He was restored to his position as Alderman on 25 Sep 1660 and held the position until 22 January 1667 when he was discharged "on account of his great infirmity".

He rebuild part of Throcking Church in 1660.

On a plaque in the chuch at Little Bradley, Suffolk:

"Here lyelth buryed ye bodie of Thomas Soame of Little Bradley.in the county of Suff: gent. He died ye l1 of Octob 1606 aged 64. He married Elizabeth Alington daughter of Robert Alington of Horseheath in the county of Cambridge Esquier by whom he had issue 5 sonnes and 2 daughters which said Elizabeth erected this monument for a perpetuall memory of his name ye 11 of May AD1612" Elizabeth died in 1619."

Thomas Soamne's daughter Anne married Robert Morton. Anne and Robert's son George Morton had a son called John Morton who was knighted and who married Susan Brand who is also in this tree.

Thomas Soame's wife Elizabeth died in 1618 and was buried at Little Bradley, Suffolk on 14 November 1618.
