CREATING A DISTURBANCE AT HERNE BAY - John Neame, William Nutter, Charles Laslet and John Mezzard, all agricultural labourers in the employment of a Mr Goodwin, of Studs Farm, near Swalecliffe were on Friday were charged under the Herne Bay Local Act at the Town Hall, before Captain Slarke, for creating a disturbance at midnight on Saturday, in the public streets. They pleaded guilty to the charge, which was surported by the evidence of several persons, who were seriously alarmed by the uproar occasioned thereby. The magistrate fined them each five shillings and costs, or fourteen days imprisonment at St Augustines'.
From the WHITSTABLE TIMES and HERNE BAY HERALD of Saturday November 3rd, 1877:
On Monday night T.T. Delasaux Esq, held an inquest at the Fox and Hounds, Ivy Lane on the body of William Nutter, labourer. - Mary Nutter said she was the wife of the deceased, who was 42 years of age, and they lived at Hernehill. On Saturday afternoon he was driving a waggon with two horses. A young man was was lying at the end of two shafts asleep and the deceased got down to wake him. Whilst he was doing so he stepped on a stone, slipped on the ground, and one of the wheels passed over his stomach. He was taken to the Kent and Canterbury Hospital, where he died. It was purely an accident.- The jury returned a verdict of "Accidental Death".

Notes
General:
On 18 May 1152, at Poitiers at the age of 19, Henry married Eleanor of Aquitaine. The wedding was "without the pomp or ceremony that befitted their rank, partly because Eleanor's prior marriage to Louis VII of France had been annulled only two months previously. Their relationship, always stormy, eventually disintegrated: after Eleanor encouraged her children to rebel against their father and in 1173 Henry had her placed under house arrest where she remained for fifteen years.

Notes
General:
Æthelred was king of England (978–1013 and 1014–1016).
Æthelred was only about 10 (no more than 13) when his half-brother Edward was murdered. Æthelred was not personally suspected of participation
He was born into the royal house of Wessex, which was at that time the effective ruler of all the Anglo-Saxons, Ethelred was a direct descendant of Alfred the Great and the son of King Edgar, who had ruled a united and peaceful England for 16 years. At Edgar's death in 975, the realm passed to Ethelred's brother Edward, who was still a child. The nobles of the kingdom formed rival parties around Edward and Ethelred, and the latter's supporters murdered Edward on March 18, 978, making Ethelred king. Edward was soon widely honored as a martyred saint, and devotion to him gave many an excuse to withhold allegiance from his successor. From the time of Ethelred's accession at the age of 9 or 10, his reign was tragically marred by the treason and revolt of his leading thegns (noblemen). The ensuing disorder was nourished by his own indecisive character and by the renewal of Danish raids on England in 980 after a pause of 25 years. Increasing Danish aggressiveness complemented the increasing English disunity and military ineffectiveness. In 991 Ethelred instituted a policy of buying off Danish raiders with lavish payments of silver. Given the inadequacy of English defenses, it was a strategically sound but psychologically demoralizing decision that mocked the heroic traditions of the Anglo-Saxons.
