The will of George Pettman:

In the Name of God Amen I George Petman of the city of Canterbury carpenter being sick and weak of Body but of a sound and perfect mind and memory God be praised therefore do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner following, that is to say – First I commend my Soul into the hands of God that gave it And my body I commit to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Exors hereinafter named And as to my wordly goods and Estate I give and dispose of the same in the following manner:

Imprimis I give and devise unto my brother Robert Petman and his heirs and Assigns All that my undivided ffifth part and all other my part and purport of and in all that Messuage or Tenement with the Garden and Appurtenances thereunto belonging situate and being in the Parish of Chislet in the County of Kent in the Occupation of Nethersole or his Assigns And of and in One other Messuage or Tenemant with the Garden and Appurtenances thereunto belonging situate and being in Chislet aforesaid and now or late in the occupation of the Widow (blank) or her Assigns And of and in One other Messuage or Tenement with the Garden and Appurtences thereunto belonging situate and being in the parish of Gorham in the said couny of Kent And now in the occupation of (Blank) Coller or his Assigns And also of and in another Messuage or Tenement with Garden and Appurtences thereunto belonging situate and being in the Parish of Wickhambreux in the said County of Kent and late in the occupation of my brother Peter Petman or his Assigns To have and to hold the said fifth part and all other my part purport and share (passage deleted) Messuages Tenements Hereditaments and Premises with the Appurts unto my said brother Robert Petman his Heirs and Assigns To the only use and behoofe of the said Robert Petman his heirs and Assigns forever

But my will and Mind is nevertheless that my said brother Petman shall and do sell the same for the best price he can get for the same And the Moneys arising by such Sale be by him applied towards the payment of fifty pounds and Interest which I do owe on Bond to (Blank) Godfrey of Shepherdswell and for which my said Brother Robert and Brother John Petman do now stand bound and engaged for me And in case the Monies arising by such Sale shall not be sufficient to pay and discharge the said sum of Fifty pounds and the interest that now is or shall become for the same Then I do Will Order and direct that my Exors do pay of my personal Estate what the said purchase money shall fall short of discharging the said Sum of ffifty pounds and Interest thereof

Item all the residue and remainder of my Goods Chattels and Personal Estate whatsoever I give and bequeath unto my dear wife Susannah Petman whom I make and appoint sole Executrix of this my Last will and Testament In witness whereof I have set hereunto my Hand and Seal the ffour and Twentieth day of October in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Twenty Three. George Petman his mark. Signed Sealed published and declared by the said George Petman to be his Last Will and Testament in the prescence of Henry Cassey, Ralph Blundeen, Vin: Denne.
