James Burnett was born in Scotland on 27 September 1881 and was in the Royal Navy. He died on 12 March 1950 at St Mary's Hospital, Tattingstone, he was of 304 Foxhall Road, Ipswich and his probate of £1801 14s 2d was left to his wife Ruth Emma Burnett.

Ruth and James Burnett had two children - George Burnett (born 1913 who was living with his parents on the 1939 register) and Leslie J Burnett (born 1921).

Ruth's probate was £3,013 and was at Ipswich on 1st August 1969.
