Edward's sister Sarah Standing (nee Bromley) was a witness at his wedding in 1862. The other witness was Sarah's husband Francis Standing.


From the MAIDSTONE TELEGRAPH of Saturday 7 October 1865:

John Donough was charged with stealing a cabbages from the garden of Thomas Bromley Sen., on the previous Tuesday, in the parish of East Farleigh.
Edward Charles Bromley deposed to seeing prisoner in company with some other men, pulling the cabbages from his father's garden. He ran after them and captured prisoner after he ran about 15 rods. He had pulled up 18 cabbages , the value of which was about 1s 6d.
Thomas Bromely, brother of previous witness confirmed the pulling up of the cabbages.
Six weeks hard labour.
