Eliza Bromley

  General Notes:

On the 1861 census Eliza Lewis is living with Exeter Medhurst as a servant. Present with her are her daugher Sarah Ann Lewis who was 14 and her son George Lewis who was 1. Exeter is probably the father of George as the BMD shows his name as George Edward Medhurst Lewis who born December Quarter 1859 and died in 1862 and was buried in Maidstone Cemetery on 10 August 1862.

Ten years later on the 1871 census Eliza Lewis is still living with Exeter Medhurst, she is still a servant. Also present is John William Lewis (born 1864) who is shown as "son of servant". It is quite possible that Exeter is also his father. John William Lewis married Emma Simpson in 1889 at Maidstone. On the 1891 and 1901 census' he was a Railway Carman. And on the 1911 census he was just a Carman. They had no children.

Exeter Medhurst was born in Lamberhurst, Kent and was bapstised there on 6th July 1817 to Mary Medhurst.

Eliza married Richard Lewis, son of Thomas Lewis and Susanna Watts, on 27 March 1843 in East Farleigh, Kent. (Richard Lewis was born in 1823 in Maidstone, Kent and was christened on 16 February 1823 in Maidstone All Saints, Kent.)
