General Notes: Matthew Hopkins the "Witchfinder General" had 80-years-old Brandestone reverend John Lowes hung at Bury St Edmunds on 27 August 1645 and he had him confess to "sending his imps to sink ships between Yarmouth and Winterton, and causing "the child of Nathaniel Mann to languish and die" after Nathaniel had testified that after falling out with him, Lowes bewitched his child to death. Noted events in his life were: • Marriage: to Elizabeth Murel, 1628, Brandeston, Suffolk. Nathaniel married Elizabeth Mirrel in 1628 in Brandeston, Suffolk. (Elizabeth Mirrel died in 1642 in Pettistree, Suffolk and was buried on 12 August 1642 in Pettistree, Suffolk.) |
