On the 1861 census Avis is listed as Eva Harper aged 5 years old.

Avis and her husband Thomas had 9 children - Jane Benstead (born 1875), Avis Benstead (born 1877), Harriett (born 1879), Annie (born 1881), Thomas (born 1884), Louisa (born 1889), Louie (born 1889) Lizzie (born 1890) and George Benstead (born 1895).

On the 1881 Avis and her husband and family are living at the same place as her mother and brothers and sisters.

Avis' husband Thomas Benstead died in 1896 and was buried at Manir Park Cemetery, Newham, London on 18th May 1896. Avis never remarried.
