Sir John Shelton inherited the family seat at Shelton, Norfolk and was High Sheriff of Norfolk and Suffolk in 1523 and 1554.
He married Margaret Parker, daughter of Henry Parker, 10th Baron Morley. Their children were: Sir Ralph Shelton, Anne Shelton, Alice Shelton, Mary Shelton and Thomas Shelton.
Sir John Shelton was made a knight of the bath on 22 February 1547.
