Sir Philip was admitted to Gray's Inn, London on 5 February 1663 and had gained a BA from Trinity College, Cambridge. He left England with the Rev. John Ray, the naturalist, and travelled abroad between 1663-6.
Sir Philip Skippon's first wife Lady Amy Skippon was buried in Wrentham Church in Suffolk on 5 December 1676. His second wife died in 1683 and was buried in the same church on 11 October 1683.
Philip was knighted on 19 April 1674.
