From the KENTISH CHORNICLE of Saturday 9 February 1861:
CREATING A DISTURBANCE AT HERNE BAY - John Neame, William Nutter, Charles Laslet and John Mezzard, all agricultural labourers in the employment of a Mr Goodwin, of Studs Farm, near Swalecliffe were on Friday were charged under the Herne Bay Local Act at the Town Hall, before Captain Slarke, for creating a disturbance at midnight on Saturday, in the public streets. They pleaded guilty to the charge, which was surported by the evidence of several persons, who were seriously alarmed by the uproar occasioned thereby. The magistrate fined them each five shillings and costs, or fourteen days imprisonment at St Augustines'.
From the WHITSTABLE TIMES and HERNE BAY HERALD of Saturday November 3rd, 1877:
On Monday night T.T. Delasaux Esq, held an inquest at the Fox and Hounds, Ivy Lane on the body of William Nutter, labourer. - Mary Nutter said she was the wife of the deceased, who was 42 years of age, and they lived at Hernehill. On Saturday afternoon he was driving a waggon with two horses. A young man was was lying at the end of two shafts asleep and the deceased got down to wake him. Whilst he was doing so he stepped on a stone, slipped on the ground, and one of the wheels passed over his stomach. He was taken to the Kent and Canterbury Hospital, where he died. It was purely an accident.- The jury returned a verdict of "Accidental Death".
