Isabella de Angouleme
(1189-1246) |
Isabella de Angouleme
General Notes: On 29 August 1189, she married John, Earl of Cornwall at Marlborough Castle in Wiltshire and he assumed the title in her right. Shortly before or after John's accession as King in 1199, he had the marriage annulled on the grounds of consanguinity (they were second cousins as descendants of King Henry I). As a result, Isabelal was never recognised as Queen of England and her former title merged in the Crown. Noted events in her life were: • Marriage: to King John I Plantagenet, 26 August 1200, Bordeaux, Gironde, France. • Marriage: to Hugh X de Lusignan, 10 May 1220. Isabella married King John I Plantagenet, son of King Henry II Plantagenet and Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine, on 26 August 1200 in Bordeaux, Gironde, France. (King John I Plantagenet was born on 24 December 1166 in Beaumont Palace, Oxford, Oxfordshire, died on 18 October 1216 in Newark Castle, Newark, Nottinghamshire and was buried in Worcester Cathedral, Worcester, Worcestershire.) |
