General Notes:
Notes for DEBORAH REASON:
From Deb Hunt's autobiography: Granny Hawkins was a sweet little lady I imagine barely 5ft tall and she had borne 18 children and brought all but two to adulthood. They both lived to be over eighty, I think, in spite of being married when she was 17 and having 18 children.
Octogenarian's funeral:
One of the oldest inhabitants of the parish was laid to rest in the village churchyard, Creeting St Peter, on Tuesday afternoon, in the person of Mrs Deborah Hawkins. Mrs Hawkins had attained the ripe age of 80 years, and was laid aside for only a short time before her death. She had a family of fifteen sons and daughters, and eleven of these were present at the funeral, two sons being unable to attend; Walter who lives in Surrey, and Harry who is in service in India. One daughter had died, and one son made the supreme sacrifice in the Great War, in which Mr and Mrs Hawkins had four sons and many descendants serving. Married 63 years ago, they had lived in the same house for 60 years. Fifty-nine grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren owe to them their descent. The first portion of the service was at the chapel and here and at the interment the Rev C Deeprose of Stowmarket officiated. The mourners were: the husband Mr Charles Hawkins, who is in his 81st year, Edward Hawkins (Lawford), William Hawkins (Bath), Frederick Hawkins (Thorpe-le-Soken), Arthur Hawkins (London), Charles Hawkins (Needham Market), Ernest Hawkins (Stowmarket), sons, with their respective wives; Mrs E Euston (Burghail), Mrs E Tibbott (Stratford), Mrs A Barfield (Bramford), Mrs Sturgeon and Mrs Greengrass (Stowmarket), daughters; Messrs Euston, Sturgeon and Greengrass, sons-in-laws; Mr Warner (Ipswich, brother in law. Mr and Miss Reason (Stowmarket). There were many villagers present, as was also Mr J K Holden (Stowmarket). There were many beautiful floral tributes. Friends in the village sent a perpetual wreath.
In total Deborah had 18 children, 3 of whom died.
