Samuel and his sister Anne were both christned at the same day, 13 June 1841 at Tuddenham St Martin church.
Mary Ann Waspe (Whitman) was born in Tuddenham St Martin in 1834 and she died in Ipswich on 20th April 1911 aged 74. On the 1911 census she was living at 32 Alan Road, Ipswich with her daughter Ellen Louisa Newson (Whitman) and her husband George Charles Newson, they had married in 1904 at Ipswich.
Samuel worked at Orwell Works in Ipswich for 50 years.
On the tombstone at Ipswich Cemetary: "In loving memory of Samuel Whitman who died March 28 1905 Aged 71 years. Thy Will be Done. Also Mary Ann Whitman beloved wife of the above who died 20 April 1911, Aged 74 years".
Samuel and Mary Whitman had 4 children:
Robert Charles Whitman baptised 25 October 1868 at Ipswich St Peter.
Ellen Louisa Whitman baptised 24 April 1870 at Ipswich St Peter.
Frederick James Whitman 1874, married Rhoda Ethel Ablitt in 1906 in Ipswich and died in Ipswich in 1938.
Edward Albert Whitman 1879 married Anna Maria Beckingham in Ipswich in 1904 and died in Ipswich in 1957. Anna died in Ipswich in 1941 aged 63.
