Sir Geoffrey Boleyn
General Notes: Sir Geoffrey Boleyn was a wealthy mercer, and served as Lord Mayor of London in 1457/8. In 1462 he bought Hever Castle, which was in need of repair, and converted it into a manor. It was the seat of the Boleyn's until 1539. He also purchased Blickling Hall in Norfolk from Sir John Fastolf. He was also a a hatter in London in the 1430s. He made a success of his career, joining the prestigious Mercer’s Company in 1435 and growing wealthy. Noted events in his life were: • Marriage: to Anne Hoo, 1442, Luton Hoo, Bedfordshire. • Occupation: Lord Mayor of London, 1457, London. Geoffrey married Anne Hoo, daughter of Lord (Sir) Thomas Hoo and Elizabeth Wychingham, in 1442 in Luton Hoo, Bedfordshire. (Anne Hoo was born in 1422 in Luton Hoo, Bedfordshire and died in 1484 in Norwich, Norfolk.) |
