In mid-October 1521, when Mary Tudor was five years old, Lady Calthorpe replaced Lady Bryan as her governess and Sir PhilipCalthorpe was put in charge of the household at joint wages of £40 per annum. In 1525, when Mary set up her household at Ludlow as Princess of Wales, Philip Calthorpe was her vice-chamberlain and his wife was one of her gentlewomen. She sent Mary a New Year’s gift in 1542/3.
