On both the 1841 and 1851 census James Hammond is shown living with his niece Eliza Hammond (Lambert).

James joined the Army on 29th April 1797 and was in the 88th Regement Of Infantry. He served for 20 years and 97 days to 20th July 1817. He was a Private for 4 years and 182 days, a Corporal for 2 years and 31 days and a Sergeant for 13 years 244 days.

He was addmitted to Royal Hospital, Chelsea on 30th July 1817.
