bullet  General Notes:

On the 1881 census along with Robert was a Sarah Brown who was 31 years of age, she is shown as a servant. Along with her was a 3 year old Robert K Brown, who could be Sarah's son and perhaps Robert was the father.

One of Robert and Maria Knights children was a Maria Knights was was baptised on 24 April 1831 in Nacton, Suffolk. In 1849 she had a son Robert Knights (baptised at Nacton on 15 January 1849), and two years later Maria Knights was found guilty of "Willfull murder of a child". She was employed as a cook at a farm in Sproughton when she gave birth to a female child who was found dead shortly after the bith. After the inquest verdict which was held at the Sproughton Wild Man Inn, she was taken first to Ipswich prison and then to Bury St Edmunds where she was found guilty and sent to prison for two years. Her son Robert Knights at the time of the 1851 census was living with Robert and Maria Knights, her parents.

After release from prison she married John Porter Ralph in 1869 and as far as can be told she had no children with him. She died on 22 October 1896 while living in Ipswich and was bured in Ipswich Cemetery on 27 October 1896.
