William Strickland
General Notes: William was buried on 3 June 1670 in Frant, Sussex as William Stickland, gent. His will was proved on 5 July 1670. William was apprenticed to Mr. Thomas Glover and admitted into the Ironmongers Company of London. In 1657 he purchased the property Lightlands in the parish of Frant, Sussex from John Alchorne. (Lightlands was built by Nicholas Fowle and his son William Fowle). Lightlands then comprised of 100 acres. Two years later William added to his property by purchasing Knowle Mill and Marlings from John Baker and other fields in the locality. Noted events in his life were: • Marriage: to Elizabeth Cripse, 9 July 1650, Horsted Keynes, Sussex. William married Elizabeth Cripse, daughter of John Crippes and Elizabeth Wicken, on 9 July 1650 in Horsted Keynes, Sussex. (Elizabeth Cripse was born in 1626 in East Grinstead, Sussex, christened on 11 October 1626 in East Grinstead, Sussex, died in 1696 in Wadhurst, East Sussex and was buried on 1 April 1696 in Wadhurst, East Sussex.) |
