Henry Rickart Hamlin had a brother called Tom who was in the RAF, he had a daughter called Valerie, she died at the age of 36 of asthma, he also had a brother called Douglas who was in the Navy.

Henry joined the army in 1914 aged just 14 and was believed to have taken part in the Dunkirk evacuation. This was an evacuation of Allied soldiers from the beaches of Dunkirk, France, between May 26 and June 4, 1940, when British and French troops were cut off by the German army during the Battle of Dunkirk in the Second World War. By 1949 he was a Captain and had left the army. He was formley a sergeant in the Royal Corps of Signals - number 2311587.

Dated - 1 February 1946:

"INDIAN ARMY

To be Lt.
W/S. Capt. (Q.M.) Henry Rickartt HAMLIN (E.G.), R. Sigs. (I.O. 6627 now I.A. 1500), and retains the W/S rank of Capt., 16th Sept. 1944."

Dated - 3 May 1946:

"W/S Capt. (Q.M.) Henry Rickartt HAMLIN (E.G.), R. Sigs. (I.O. 6627 now LA. 1500) and retains the W/S rank of Capt., 23rd Dec. 1943. (Substituted for the notifn. in the Gazette dated .1st Feb. 1946.)

Dated - 25 July 1947:

" Spec. List " of Qr.-Mrs.. R. Sigs (I.A.).
To be Lt.: —
W/S Capt. (Q.M.) Henry Rickartt HAMLIN (EC) R. Sigs. (I.O. 6627 now I.A. 1500) and retains the W/S rank of Capt., 23rd Dec. 1943, but with service for promotion from 4th Sept. 1939. (Substituted for the notifn. in the Gazette of the 3rd May 1946.)"

Dated - 19 November 1948:

"Lt. (W/S Capt.) (Qr.-Mr.) H. R. HAMLIN (LA 1500) retires 14th Nov. 1948, and is granted the hon. rank of Capt"

After the second world war Henry was working in the Civil Service when he had a relationship with an Ena May Grace Parsons, he subsequently had a son born on 28 May 1951 called Ian Rickart Hamlin Parsons.

From around 1951-1965 Henry lived at 83 Strathville Road, Putney, London with Ehel Maud Bingham and a Annie Johnson.

Henry's second "wife" Ethel Maud Hamlin was born on 14 April 1899 in Paddington, London as Ethel Maud Cottiss and died 28 March 1980 in Merstham, Redhill, Surrey at 42 Subrosa, Battlebridge Lane. She did not actually marry Henry although her death certifcate states she was also known as Ethel Maud Hamlin. In 1921 (December quarter) she married John Alfred Bingham. They then had three cildren - John Alfred Bingham (born 1922 Wandsworth, Surrey), Olive W Bingham (born 1923 Lambeth, Surrey) and Edna M Bingham (born 1925 Wandsworth, Surrey).

Henry left effects of £1442 when he died and his probate was held in London on 5 October 1978.

Henry married Edith Matilda Nutter, daughter of George Thomas Nutter and Mary Ann Newick, on 10 January 1923 in All Saints Church, Chatham, Kent. (Edith Matilda Nutter was born on 9 April 1902 in Chatham, Kent, christened on 9 May 1902 in St Margaret Of Antioch Cmb, Rainham, Kent, died on 7 May 1982 in Ipswich Hospital, St Helens Wing and was buried on 12 May 1982 in Ipswich Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Ipswich, Suffolk.) The cause of her death was Bronchopneumonia.
