George's first school was Lavender Hill he then went to Gideon Road in Wandsworth where he started on 25 August 1898, on the same day his brother Frederick Hamlin also started there.

George was baptised on the same day as his sister Bertha and even though the baptism record shows his middle name as "Robert" other records show it to be "William".

George's wife Mabel Podd was born in Shotley, Suffolk in 1895 to William and Emily Podd. She was baptised in Shotley on 22 September 1895.

George and Mabel had 5 children:

George Frederick Hamlin born 1 March 1918 died 1970 in Amersham, Buckinghamshire.
Ernest Hamlin born and died in 1919 Samford, Suffolk
Arthur W Hamlin born 1921 and died in 1923 in Ipswich, Suffolk.
Albert W Hamlin born 26 June 1925 and died in 1998 in North Lincolnshire.
